Over the course of two semesters, I worked on a project concerned with developing the concept of an everyday household item.
Poster that I designed to market the side table I had designed, called ‘nöje’ which means pleasure/excitement in Swedish. The items depicted on the table are based on the feedback given by my chosen demographic of what objects they place on their own side table.
Don Norman’s ‘The Design of Everyday Things’ (1988) and Deana McDonagh's 'Design and Emotion: The Experience of Everyday Things' (2004) explores what makes good design, of how style is related to the utility of the object. If done effectively, style and function fuel a cyclical relationship, where one serves the other.
After taking a closer look into their teachings, I will conceptualise my own everyday product.
This project is concerned with developing a product that has a functional purpose, with decorative qualities. It will also be a means of exhibiting my technical design skills as a final year design/arts student at university, using Photoshop to present it in the form of a poster and mockup. (as shown above).
